Hungry
The drug addict isn't crying out for another hit or another fix. The over-eater isn't really hungry for more food. The lonely man really isn't finding satisfaction in his neighbor's greener grass. They're all really just looking for love in all the wrong places.

 Maybe your "poison" is different than the ones above. Maybe you just need ... well, you name it. Family. A few glasses of wine to take the edge off. Ministry. More time at church. Another night out at another restaurant. Ahhh, a few hours in front of the TV. Or maybe a pseudo-connection with others; hours on facebook, twitter, or texting. Whatever your go-to is, it's really not what you're looking for.

 "How do you know what I'm looking for?" Well, I'm glad you asked. We all have needs, deep needs, a void if you will, put in us by our Creator. Needs only He can fill and satisfy. Look at what David said,

How lovely is your dwelling place,
    Lord Almighty!
My soul yearns, even faints,
    for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out

    for the living God.
Did you notice that David said even his flesh cries out for God? Our flesh crying out for God? That doesn't make any sense. Remember what we've been taught? Flesh bad, spirit good. But, you must remember that God created every part of us, spirit, soul, and body. And with that, He created every part of us to need Him. In fact, He will be faithful to keep that spirit, soul, and body in tact; blameless at His coming.

 So the next time you feel desire creep up in you, the flesh crying out for food or love or a drink or whatever it may be crying out for, remember: you have a Creator who longs to fill the true need, the true hunger, the true desire. Not the want; not the quick fix, the candy for your eyes, a food-induced stupor, the whatever multitude of options that present themselves with a promise to satisfy.

 Remember; God is your portion, your desire, the One you really hunger for.

 And take heart; that deep hunger you feel for something, that longing that you think will drive you crazy is simply the grace of God letting you know that your heart and your flesh are crying out for Him. Let Him fill your need, let Him be your heart's desire. Let Him be your portion forever.

Sometimes dreams must die. Dreams never realized can be heartbreaking, but there's nothing that leads to that craggy road called discouragement more directly than dreams realized and then lost. The hope of marriage broken on the rocks of disappointment and conflict. Booming investments in the market tail spinning into oblivion on the comment of a high political official. Every good and perfect gift comes from the Father of lights in whom there is no shifting shadow. Salvation is a gift from God. But can your salvation be lost? Is it that fragile? Is it not a gift?
