Don't Give Up


 "Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary." - Paul's letter to the Galatians.

 Sometimes our efforts can seem fruitless. If we're honest, we've all felt that way. We put in, we invest, we care, we do, and little seems to change. But that's just our human perspective, for God has made a promise.

 The thunderstorm echoing outside my window reminds me of His promise:

 For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth And making it bear and sprout, And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.

 God's purpose and plan will be accomplished in you because your heart is good ground and He is sowing into that good ground. So do not lose hope.

 But how do we keep from growing weary? Well there are many options out there that promise refreshment. But only One truly satisfies; only One can really restore our souls. And that One is Jesus - His door is always open; His light is always on. He is the Approachable One, the Restorer, the One who daily bears our burdens. And He can't wait to hear from you and carry your woes.
So, when you are on the edge, at the edge, over the edge, go to Him. Don't give up, go to Him and find the strength to leave the land of weary and continue on in the fight. 

 What a friend we have in Jesus!

Fixer-Upper I have a soft spot for houses that have potential, or as some people like to call them, fixer uppers. So does my daughter Kaity. She inherited that part of me. No More We walk into a store, heading straight for the sale item, holding our coupon; excited to get such a good deal on something we've been wanting for at least a month or more. But when we get there, the item is gone - no more left. It happens often. No more cappuccino muffins at the bakery. No more fresh coffee; it's too close to closing time. An underlying culture exists in America today, a pattern of thought that says, "At all costs, avoid pain." And we, as the church, must take care to not let our understanding of scripture be shaped or influenced by such a world view. For from this culture we have seen such pseudo-spiritual doctrines as "name it and claim it" spring up to entice the body of Christ. We’ve incorrectly divided scriptures such as "By His wounds we are healed" to wrongly mean that we shall never suffer disease of any kind. Yet it was the disease of sin that was defeated on the cross.  Comfort is king in our "now" society and we must take care that we don't adopt that attitude in ourselves.
